This present thesis deals with section of the Nile River in Upper Egypt between Esna Barrage and Naga-Hamady Barrage. The investigated section laying between latitudes (255 19َ 03ً ) and (26508َ 33ً) North , and longitudes (325 24َ 27ً ) and (32545ً32ً) East. The study consist of Five Chapters preceded by an introduction and followed by a conclusion, each chapter begins with a preface and ended by a summery. The introduction determines in details, the section under investigation, the Reasons which standing behind the selection of the subject, objectives of the Study, approaches & tools that used, and the previous studies. Chapter One deals with the factors that effect on Bank materials through studying the following: The Morphometric Analysis of Banks (Height – Slope) The physical characteristics of Bank sediments: (Cohesive or None Cohesive OR Composite Bank , Soil Temperature , Tension Cracks , Grain size analysis , Chemical analysis , and Stratigraphy ofHorizontal layers. The effect of climate factors (Frost Action, Dry and Wet, Rain fall). Biological factors: Vegetation, Animal life Man induced factors: Agricultural Activities, Transportation, Urbanization, Flow obstruction, Wave action, Engineering Constructions. Chapter Two is concerned with Hydrological characteristics of river Nile and Its effect on Bank erosion and failure , throughout studying the changes of Discharge after the construction of high Aswan Dam , and its effect on Water level , Velocity , Depth , Width. And the effect of engineering constructions of River Nile on sediments load, and decrease sediments load and its effect on Stream power were also investigated. Finally studying the relationship between Hydrological characteristics. Chapter Three concerned with studying River Course Morphological characteristics and its effect on Bank Erosion and Failure , through Studying the morphometric analysis for cross section : (Width , Depth , Cross section , Wetted perimeter , and Hydraulic Radius ). Then studying the Morphometric analysis for longitudinal sections throughout: (the change of river course direction, the change of bed channel slope, and the change of river pattern). Finally studying the Geomorphological features (Abandoned channels, Natural levees, Slough, Sand Bars, Meanders, and Islands) Chapter four concerned with processes that efftec in Bank erosion and failure include: Surface erosion. Seepage erosion in three main types : Spring sapping. selective internal erosion. Piping.
