Abstract

With over a million new cases in the world each year, breast cancer is the most common malignancy in women. DCE-MRI of the breast has a high sensitivity for breast cancer detection and is considered the most sensitive breast screening technique for women at high risk. Breast MRI is analyzed according to morphologic criteria, enhancement kinetics and T2 characteristics of breast lesions. However, all these criteria show an overlap between benign and malignant lesions. Dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE)-MRI refers to the acquisition of data before, during and after intravenous administration of contrast agent. It benefits from being non-invasive, allowing visualization of the extent of disease and its angiogenic properties. The aim of our study was to demonstrate the value of DCE-MRI in differentiating benign from malignant breast lesions.
