Abstract

This study was carried out to find out the effect of two different implant abutment connections on marginal bone and their effect on each other.
Conventional complete denture was constructed to completely edentulous patient who then received two different implants‗connection bilaterally in the canine region.
A three dimensional geometrical model was scaled to resemble the real measures of patient’s mandible, implants and complete overdenture using a postoperative CBCT to estimate the exact site and inclination of the two implants in relation to the edentulous mandible.
The finite element analysis was then applied to the model under 100 N loads unilaterally and bilaterally. The stresses was obtained as Von Mises stress measured in implant-abutment connections for both sides, whole implant assembly, cortical bone, cancellous bone and the denture.
Regarding stresses induced in implant abutment connections during unilateral applied loads for each side, it had been found that the cone connection had a higher stresses compared to the trilobe one.
Regarding stresses induced in implant abutment connections during bilateral applied loads, it has been found that the stresses on cone connection was almost double that on the trilobe one.
Regarding stresses induced on cortical, cancellous bone and denture during unilateral and bilateral application of loads, the study revealed that the cone connection had the highest stresses of them.
Regarding the effect of the two different connections on each other, it had been found that the stresses transmitted to the trilobe connection by unilateral application of loads to cone connection side was higher than that transmitted to cone connection by load application on the trilobe connection side..
