Abstract

The economic crisis in Egypt is related to the weak production in all industrial and agricultural fields. it depends on importing until we become importing our food and machines. Therefore, the aim of this research is to manufacture a machine of mixing and pelleting of animal feed locally, operated by different power sources. Farmer and small breeder can obtain this machine because of its small size and it works by very low energy by comparing with the imported machines of animal feed manufacturing. It can be manufactured in modest workshops, and also can be manufactured in large quantities to cover the local needs. The experimental studies were performed to determine the effect of: Die speed (85, 95, 115, 160 &190 r.p.m.), Die holes’ diameter (3, 4 &5mm), Clearance between die and rollers (0, 0.5 & 1 mm), moisture content of feed mixture (25, 28 & 31%), Adhesive material (without any, molasses & gelatin), Mixing duration (5, 10, 15 & 20 min.), Different power sources (AC, 220V. on grid, diesel generator and solar photovoltaic generator).On parameters of the study: Productivity, Pelleting efficiency, Total losses, Pellets durability, Pellets bulk density, Pellets breaking stress, Total consumed power, Specific consumption energy, Mixing degree, and Total cost per mass unit.The results of the present study led to the following conclusion:A. The mixing duration of 5 minutes is recommended to control the performance of the manufactured mixer for homogeneous mixture in addition to save specific consumption energy and production costs. B.The optimum performance of pelleting machine was at using die speed 190 rpm., 5mm die holes’ diameter and 28% moisture content of feed mixture, with gelatin as adhesive material in feed formula and using 220V., AC, on grid as a source of power.
