Abstract

A cochlear implant usually helps children with profound sensorineural hearing loss, or nerve deafness, those types of loss often involves damage to the outer hair cells (OHCs) and inner hair cells (IHCs). It can improve hearing performance and oral communication for children. A cochlear implant is an implanted electronic hearing device, designed to produce useful hearing sensations to a child with severe to profound nerve deafness by electrically stimulating nerves inside the inner ear“. There are two parts for a cochlear implant, an internal part called the internal implant and an external part called a speech processor. Children with cochlear implants achieve stronger auditory perception and better speech intelligibility (Guanjia Pan, 2016). Quality of life is an children’s perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, values and concerns incorporating physical health, psychological state, level of independence, social relations (Susniene et al., 2009).
Aim of the study:
This study aimed to assess QOL for children after cochlear implants.
Research Questions:
1. Does cochlear implantation affect QOL of children suffering from hearing loss?
2. Is there a relation between the mother`s demographic data and QOL of their children with CI ?
The subjects and methods of the current study were portrayed under the four main designs as following:
I. Technical design
II. Operational design
III. Administrative design
IV. Statistical design
I. Technical design
The technical design included study design, Setting, subjects and tools of data collection.
Research Design:
A descriptive research design was utilized to conduct this study.
Research Settings:
This study was conducted at Implantation Department at Bahteem Hospital for Specialized Surgeries affiliated to Health Insurance Organization (HIO).
Description the study setting
The hospital area about 3300 m2. It is consist of three floors. Number of elevators are four, two in front for patients and two in back for services. Number of beds are ”72” bed distributed as the following:-
