Abstract The present study aimed to study insulin resistance (assessed by calculation of HOMA IR) in diabetic children attending the out patient diabetes Clinic at Minia Children’s and maternity University Hospital This study included : 1- 65 children known be diabetic and further were subdivided into : -52 Patient with normal insulin resistance - 15 Patient with high insulin resistance 2- 15 children were taken as control group Diabetic children less than six years and more than 18 years were excluded. study and control group included in our study were subjected to complete history taking, through clinical examination with stress on anthropometric measures including (weight, length, BMI, waist circumference). They were also subjected to some laboratory investigations including: - fasting blood glucose - fasting serum insulin - Glycosylated hemoglobin (HbA1c) Our study showed some group of diabetic patient have high insulin resistance than other group and positively correlated with BMI and glycosylted haemoglobin ( HbA1c) Furthermore, our study showed that diabetic patient with high insulin resistance positively correlated with positive family history of diabetes mellitus. Also Homa IR correlated positively with HbA1c concluding that poor glycemic control is risk factor for development of insulin resistance. |
