Abstract Quality of life of people with psychiatric illness is found lower than the general population . Researchers have tried to identify psycho – social factors influencing QOL for people with psychiatric illness, the findings have shown that spirituality and religion can enhance individuals’ QOL by positively contributing to greater life satisfaction, positive affect, happiness and hope Religion and spirituality are traditional means of coping, as they promote an internal locus of control in stressful situations. The religious and spiritual activities help to reframe stressful events in a way that motivates the individual intrinsically to deal with life stressors. Spirituality can serve as a source of hope and strength in times of crises. |
