Abstract This study was conducted in El-Gharbiya Governorate in Obstetric clinic (antenatal clinic) at El-Menshawy General Hospital, Tanta city, El-Gharbiya Governorate, Egypt. The study included 380 pregnant women in first trimester of pregnancy .The participants were subjected to personal Interview using a pre-designed questionnaire to assess the personal history, dietary history, medical and obstetrical history. Blood samples were obtained from each pregnant woman analyzed for complete blood count to diagnose anemia (Hb level < 11g\ml) . Anemic Pregnant women with microcytic hypochromic anemia were processed to confirm the diagnose of IDA with serum ferritin and iron level. IDA was diagnosed when Hb level < 11g\ml, MCV < 80fl and low serum ferritin (15-150 ng/ml) & iron levels (50-170 micg/dl). from this study the following results were obtained: - Prevalence of anemia among studied pregnant women was 17.8 % pregnant women in first trimester. |
