Abstract

Patients with intestinal related symptoms often necessitate many radiologic investigations. US is not often chosen as the initial modality due to the common misconception that it provides limited information about the intestinal tract. However, awareness of normal and pathologic appearances of the intestine with attention to the technique will enable the sonographers to make the optimal use of this modality. Many pathologic conditions can affect the intestine , including :Acute abdomen , Non-neoplastic diseases , Neoplastic lesions and post-operative complication. Aim of the work : aim of the study is to assess the role of ultrasound in imaging of small and large intestinal lesions. This study was conducted on 33 patients (22 males and 11 females) from different age groups ranging from 5 months to 70 years with mean age about 38 years. Most patients were at 6th and 7th decades with males predominance than females. Patients were presented with many symptoms .Vomiting and acute abdominal pain were the commonest symptoms representing 33.3% and 24.2% respectively.
