Abstract

The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effect of E.P application on some performance and hematological parameters, biochemical and immunological state of the broiler chicks. In the study, a total 120 broilers were used and separated equally into 6 groups each group contain 20 chicks. group (A) fed the normal basal diet. group (B): were fed on commercial basal diet plus ethanolic extract of E.P continuously from one day old at a dose rate of 0.25 gm / kg diet all over the experimental period. group (C): were fed on commercial basal diet plus ethanolic extract of E.P continuously from one day old at a dose rate of 0.5 gm / kg diet all over the experimental period. group (D): fed the normal basal diet and challenged with E.col O78 by intranasal route at 3 weeks old. group (E): were fed on commercial basal diet plus ethanolic extract of E.P continuously from one day old at a dose rate of 0.25 gm / kg diet all over the experimental period and challenged with E.coli O78 by intranasal route at 3 weeks old. group (F): were fed on commercial basal diet plus ethanolic extract of E.P continuously from one day old at a dose rate of 0.5 gm / kg diet all over the experimental period, chicks were challenged with E.coli by intranasal route at 3 weeks old.Concerning with performance parameters Body weight, BWG and FCR showed a decrease in the infected group at 4th & 6th week. Concerning the hematological results, there are a normocytic normochromic anemia in the infected non-treated group. Also, the treated groups as well as the infected non-treated group and infected treated groups showed leukocytosis, lymphocytosis and heterophilia at 4th & 6th week.Serum total protein and globulin levels showed significance increase at 4th and 6th week in infected non treated group. Albumin showed a non-significant change in all groups at 4th week while, At 6th week there were a decrease in the infected non-treated group, meanwhile, all infected treated groups elicited increase at 6th week as compared with infected non- treated groups.
