Abstract
Annually, Egypt produces a large quantity of agricultural residues estimated at 43.64 million tons in 2010 opposite 61.43 million tons in 2017. Dakahlia governorate is one of the largest governorates for production agricultural residues. It produces a quantity of residues of 470 thousand tons in 2010 compared with 1.34 million tons in 2017 (Ministry of Local Development - Information and Decision Center 2010-2017). On the other side, the amount of smallholding of farm areas less than 5 feddan in Dakahlia governorate represents about 74.46%. They produce about 25.5% of the total residues. It means that the one feddan produce about 2.52 ton residues per year.
Therefore, the trend was conformed to design a small compost device to produce compost. On other side, helping the smallholding farmers to convert the agricultural residues in less time than that in Windrow system. Compost is usually made using plant residues mixed with some animal residues in a homogeneous mix that ensures certain percentages of mineral and organic materials, which usually reach maturity in the traditional system within 2-3 months.
