Abstract

Children with Down syndrome have complex health care needs and often require complex multidisciplinary care through a collaboration between professionals of all disciplines, therefore it is beneficial for children with Down syndrome to receive services to improve their health and solve associated problem by the cooperation between different policy makers, administrators and direct service providers. Programs of early intervention have a great deal to offer to parents in terms of support, encouragement and information. The programs teach parents how to interact with their infant or toddler, how to meet their child’s specific needs and how to enhance development. The aim of this study was to support families with Down syndrome child and training them how to deal with different difficulties that their children face. The current study was conducted on 65 children with Down syndrome attending the pediatric genetic and endocrinology unit at Menoufia University hospital. Diagnosis based on clinical bases and confirmed by chromosomal study. In our study, we classified cases into 3 groups according to age at initial evaluation and the care needed by each group.  Children less than 3 years of age: 13 males and 6 females  Children 3 years up to 6 years: 22 males and 8 females  Children 6 years up to 13 years: 10 males and 6 females All children were subjected to the following after informed consent: 1. Detailed history taking. 2. Family pedigree. 3. Full clinical examination. 4. Anthropometric measurements: length / height in cm, weight in kg, head circumference
