Abstract In Egypt, hundreds of people were killed yearly caused by traffic accidents. Although there is a high percentage of these accidents are attributed to driver behaviors, even so roads have a significant influence on traffic accidents. Pavement skid resistance is a key parameter influencing accident rates, particularly in wet pavement conditions. The main objectives of this research are to measure the pavement skid resistance for the commonly used hot mix asphalt pavements and to provide practical values of pavement skid resistance at different conditions to enable the designer selecting the suitable mix type according to the required skid resistance. The thesis aims at measuring skid resistance of commonly used hot mix asphalt in the Egyptian roads network, besides giving the values of Skid resistance for paving under various Egyptian conditions to enable the designers to select the wearing asphalt course according to the required skid resistance values. Selection of the accurate regression formula that suits the Egyptian roads’ coefficient of friction condition for reaching the better data results that the Egyptian engineers uses for designing the roads by the British pendulum number. |
