Abstract

Morbid obesity is dramatically increasing throughout the world and reaching an epidemic proportion. Medical comorbidities and social problems associated with or caused by obesity, are numerous.
There are conflicting data in the literature regarding the true effect of a preoperative weight loss regimen on various aspects of clinical outcome after bariatric surgery
Sleeve gastrectomy was initiated as a first step surgery for management of super obese patient then it gained popularity as single efficient producer for management of obesity and its related co morbidity
The authors of this study conducted a clinical trial aiming for studying the value of preoperative weight loss on
1. Operative procedure as regard operative time, blood loss, liver retraction, visualization of gastro esophageal junction, detection of hiatal hernia, and conversion to open procedure.
2. Early mobilization, Post-operative complication, hospital stay, and magnitude of excess weight loss.
This is a randomized control trial which included fifty patient with morbid obesity admitted to General Surgery Department in Menoufia University Hospital from January 2016 to January 2017 and followed up for one year.
