Abstract

Therefore, in the study reported here, we have focused on the assessment of alterations in the activity of glucokinase, glucose-6-phosphatase dehydrogenase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD) enzymes in the serum to investigate whether these enzymes are potential candidates as diagnostic and prognostic markers for HCC.
This cross-sectional prospective, case-control hospital based study was conducted in Internal Medicine Department, Minia University Hospital from march 2016to septemper 2016.
This study will be carried out to assess the serum level of the following enzymes ; G6PD,glucokinase,glucose 6 phosphatase and their relation with suseptability and clinicopathological features of HCC among Egyptian cirrhotic patients infected with HCV and evaluate their possibility for being a diagnostic or a prognostic marker among HCC patients.
This study included 100 subjects who were recruited from inpatient and out -patient clinic and divided in to 3 groups:
- group I: It included 45 HCV-related liver cirrhosis complicated by HCC (35 men and 10 women), their ages ranged from 45 to 74 years old.
- group II: It included 30 patients with HCV induced liver cirrhosis. They were 12 men and 18 women, their ages ranged from 45 to 69 years old.
- group III: It comprised 30 apparently healthy volunteers. They were 10 men and 20 women, their ages ranged from 45 to 66 years old. They had normal physical examination, laboratory findings and abdominal ultrasonography. They were negative for HCV antibodies.
-Subjects of group II and III were age and sex matched to group I.
Our study revealed that;
Cirrhotic patients with and without HCC had higher total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, INR and lower hemoglobin level, platelets count and serum albumin compared to the healthy groups, In addition, patients with HCC had higher blood urea and α-fetoprotein than healthy control.
CHC realted liver cirrhosis complicated with HCC patients had higher level of serum ALT and AST compared to healthy control.
HCC patients had higher percentage of portal vein thrombosis and α-fetoprotein & INR than cirrhotic patients without HCC.
There is a significance increase in serum G6PD level among HCC patients more than cirrhotic patients and healthy control.
There is increase in the serum level of glucose 6 phosphatase than both cirrhotic patients and healthy group.
There is decrease in glucokinase serum level in both HCC and cirrhotic patients than healthy control.
