Abstract

Papaya and Pineapple fruits are considered exceptional nutritional and medicinal properties throughout the world. The present investigation had been carried out to determine the proximate composition, mineral contents, vitamins, flavonoids compounds and phenolic compounds of papaya and pineapple powder. Which contains (1.26, 0.51%) protein, (0.45, 0.22%) crude fat, (0.83, 1.14%) crude fiber, (83.60, 84.26%) ash and (8.36, 10.45%) of total carbohydrates, on a dry weight basis Potassium was highest in pineapple the followed by calcium, magnesium and phosphorous were 148, 15.36, 12.61 and 11.82 mg/100g, respectively. While papaya powder contain the highest amount of calcium followed by phosphorous and magnesium were 21.73,18.32 and 11.60 mg/100g, respectively. papaya and pineapple powder contained a higher amount of Niacin (0.36, 0.467 mg/100g) and Riboflavin the lowest (0.02,0.031 mg/100g) respectively for vitamins B group.
Designed to investigate the effects of papaya and pineapple on the nutritional status and some biochemical analyses. Forty adult albino male rats Sprague Dawley strain weighting (145±10g) were classified into 10 groups 4 rats in each group and fed several diets for 60 days as follows: G1fed on basal diet (-ve) healthy rats, G2fed on high fat diet(+ve); G3, G4 obese rats fed on high fat diet supplemented with 5%,10% papaya powder; G 5,6 rats fed on high fat diet and received daily oral dose of papaya alcoholic extract (100,200 mg) by gastric tube; G7, G8 obese rats fed on high fat diet supplemented with 5%,10% pineapple powder ; G 9,10 rats fed on high fat diet and received daily oral dose of pineapple extract (100,200mg) by gastric tube respectively. The obtained results revealed that: feeding obese rats on diet supplemented with papaya and pineapple causing significant increase in the mean value of serum HDL-c and significant decrease in the mean value of both BWG %, serum TG, TCH, LDL-c, VLDL-c, ALT, urea nitrogen and glucose as compared to group of obese rats. Keywords: High fat diet, Extracts, pineapple, papaya, Obesity.
