Abstract

Up to now, there has been little information about ultrasonographic reference values and repeatability of liver dimensions in Barki sheep, metabolic profile test in barki ewes during the transition period, ultrasonographic, biochemical and histopathological alterations in Barki sheep under negative energy balance and the gene expression of fatty acid regulating genes in transition ewes. In line with these considerations the present study was designed to : Determine the ultrasonographic reference values and repeatability of liver dimensions in Barki ewes. Determine the changes in the hematological and biochemical parameters in pregnant Barki ewes during the transitional period. Evaluate the ultrasonic changes in Barki ewes under negative energy balance and address the associated biochemical and histopathological alterations Detect mRNA levels of lipid metabolism related markers including Acetyl-coA carboxylase alpha (ACACA), fatty acid synthase (FASN) and stearoyl-CoA desaturase (SCD) in negative energy balanced Barki ewes using real time Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR).
