Abstract

SUMMARY & CONCLUSIONS
There is a consensus regarding the superiority of preservation
of the mitral valve apparatus when compared to the conventional
resection of the MV apparatus with regards to the clinical outcomes
and the LV performance but the effects on the RV are missing. They’re
some concerns on preservation techniques; implantation of smaller
prostheses, longer operation times and risk of LVOTO.
The aim of the study:
The aim of this study was to evaluate the outcomes
of preservation of the annulo-papillary continuity during MVR.
Patients and methods:
This research was a two-center non-randomized controlled
study that was conducted at The Cardiothoracic Surgery Department
at Tanta University Hospitals in Egypt, and The Cardiothoracic
Surgery Department at Waikato Hospital in New Zealand.
We prospectively recruited patients at Tanta University center in the
period between January 2014 and May 2015, and at Waikato Hospital
center in the period between May 2015 and July 2017.
The inclusion and exclusion criteria were as follows:
Inclusion criteria:
Patients who had MVR surgeries in both centers electively or
at emergency situations, and had either mechanical or tissue prostheses.
