Abstract

This work has been carried out to prepare, characterize different types
of draw solutes with high osmotic pressure and to study their performance as
draw solutes in forward osmosis desalination. These draw solutes are of
different types namely, Superparamagnetic organic caped magnetic
nanoparticle, mixed ligand complex, synthetic organic potassium salt which
can be also used as fertilizer and ionic liquid draw solution. The draw solutes
were prepared and fully characterized in terms of composition, XRD, IR,
TGA, Zeta potential analysis, TEM, VSM, Spectrophotometric analysis,
Conductimetric analysis. Each draw solute was applied to forward osmosis
water desalination against de-ionized water (as a feed solution) and against
different concentration of NaCl solutions feed solutions and the optimum
draw solutes were applied to desalinate the real sea water and well water.
