Abstract

The aim of the study is to assess the efficacy and safety of single-incision, transscrotal orchidopexy in management of palpable, inguinal mal-descended testis in Ain Shams university hospital. The present study was performed in Pediatric Surgery department, Ain Shams University Hospital in Cairo, and in this prospective design that was adopted to fulfill the purpose of the study, 15 children aged from 6 months to 2 years were enrolled in whom unilateral or bilateral un descended testes were diagnosed, we had found the following results:
 The most common sites of undescended testis were intracanalicular and scrotal neck regions
 The most common postoperative complication was scrotal edema
 Mean operating time was 21 minutes
 There was no significant difference in the testicular size pre and post operative
Based on these results, we concluded that the undescended testis represents a common pediatric problem requiring surgical intervention. Trans-scrotal orchidopexy is an effective, less invasive and highly acceptable cosmetically approach for the treatment of palpable undescended testis.
Early diagnosis and proper treatment should be done to cases with undescended testis in order to avoid the risk of testicular atrophy or carcinoma.
