Abstract

Among the birth delivery modes, vaginal delivery (VD) is the most common. It is the process through which child birth naturally occur through the birth canal. The presence of medical indications may require the use of other procedure such as caesarean section. Otherwise, without the presence of such indication, the decision is referred to the women to choose between vaginal or cesarean-section delivery. So, there are various factors that interact to help the women to make their decision about the mode of delivery.
A cross-sectional study design was used to determine the factors influencing the decision that women make regarding their mode of delivery. This study was carried out on women aged 19-49 years and had given birth within the previous three months excluding who had medical indications for CD.This women were attending primary health care units for infant EPI (Expanded Programme for Immunization). This study was conducted in primary health care units (PHCUs) in Ismailia district.
There are 15 primary health care units in Ismailia district. There are 7 urban and 8 rural primary health care units in Ismailia district. The total number of 2 months infants recorded for immunization in October 2016 was 1156 infants distributed between PHCUs. Accordingly, the PHCUs was stratified into urban & rural units and proportionate sample from the attendants was selected by a simple random sample from records. All infants registered in all PHCUs had a number and 360 participants were selected from these records by simple random sample. If the selected number was not present, simple random sampling was done again to choose another. After taking a consent, the participants were asked to complete answering an interview questionnaire.
