Abstract

The problems traditionally associated with the menopause are often diagnosed and treated as a disease. It must be understood that the menopause is a normal transition and that symptom control and disease prevention can be approached in many different ways, not simply through hormone therapy. Healthcare providers should expand their focus to provide and promote preventive health in menopausal women. Awareness of the menopause symptoms and consequences can be effective in reducing problems and increasing quality of life (QOL) of menopausal women. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of self care guideline on quality of life among women with menopausal symptoms. . To fulfill the aim of this study the following research hypothesis was formulated There was the positive effect of self care guideline on the quality of life among woman with menopausal symptoms. The present study used quasi- experimental design. The study was conducted in Obstetrics and Gynecology department at maternity and children’s hospital in Elminia city. purposive sample used all women at menopausal stage who attended the gynecology clinic during a six- month period, at least 100 woman were recruited in the study . 1st part - An interviewing sheet: was designed by the researchers and it included data about women’s socio demographic data 2nd part - Menopause specific quality of life questionnaire (MENQOL). It was a self-report measure assessing the presence and severity of menopause symptoms (Hilditch and Lewis,2005 3 th - Diary sheet for every woman The main study findings can be summarized as the follows:
• The study included 100 menopausal women aged 45–65 years with a mean age of 53.6±5.3 years. Most women were married (54%); 4% illiterate and 68% were able to Read and write ; 76% housewives.
• The present study revealed that there were a significant differences between Pre and post intervention regarding total mean score of quality of life of the menopausal women.
• The current study revealed that there was a positive association between severity of chronic disease and lower level of QOL during the menopausal period.
• It is clear that there were strong association between severity of menopausal symptoms as ”vasomotor, somatic, , psychosomatic, urogenital symptoms” and lower level of QOL during the menopausal period.
• Result also illustrate that there was a positive association between decrease in the level of body activities with their Low level of QOL.
We conclude that guideline is an effective complementary health approach for improving quality of life in menopausal women.
