Abstract

Patients with CKD are frequently afflicted with neurological complications. These complications can potentially affect both the central and peripheral nervous systems. Common neurological complications in CKD include stroke, cognitive dysfunction, encephalopathy, peripheral and autonomic neuropathies. These conditions have significant impact not only on patient morbidity but also on mortality risk through a variety of mechanisms. Understanding the pathophysiological mechanisms of these conditions can provide insights into effective management strategies for neurological complications.
The aim of the present study was to identify the magnitude and extent of occurrence of neurological disorders and electrophyiologic changes in children with CKD on maintenance HD therapy in pediatric neprology unit in Menoufiya University Hospital during the period of study .
The studied subjects were divided into two groups.
group I: included 30 children on MHD for more than 6 months and they were 15 males and 15 females.
group II: 30 healthy subjects were included in this group and they were 13 males and 17 females.
All the included patients were subjected to full history taking, complete physical examination and blood samples were collected and following other investigation were done:
 CBC
 Urea, BUN, serum creatinine, serum total calcium, phosphorous cholesterol and albumin.
