Abstract

A total 17087 animals (10317 cattle, 763 buffaloes, 5239 sheep, 478
goats and 290 camels) from January 2015 till December 2016 were
slaughtered and post-mortem examined for the presence of parasitic
infestation in Hurghada Abattoir. The overall prevalence of infested
slaughtered animals in this study was 476 (2.7%. Among the detected
parasitic infestation during this study, Fascioliasis was the most prevalent
followed by Cysticercosis and the lowest was for Hydatosis.
The result given in Table (2) Fig(3,4) Image(2 ,3 ,4 ,20, 21)
revealed that the incidence of Fasciola infection during 2015 in slaughtered
cattle, buffaloes and sheep in Hurghada abattoir were 41(0.7%), 5(0.8%) ,
126 (4.6%) respectively, while during 2016 the values were 9(0.2%),
6(3.7%) , 56 (0.7%) respectively. The highest rate of Fasciola was reported in
sheep with 4.6 % followed by buffalos with 0.8 % while cattle were the
lowest with 0.7 %
The result obtained showed the total annual financial assessment of
condemned livers due to Fasciolosis in slaughtered ruminants were 25k and
11k during 2015 and 2016 respectively.
The results revealed the incidence of Cysticercosis in examined Cattle,
Buffaloes and Camels during 2015 were 29(0.5%) in Cattle only, while the
Cysticercosis could not be detected in buffaloes and Camels. In 2016 the
