Abstract

The aims of the current study were:
1. To study the degree and factors implicated in the severity of addiction and its consequences in the study sample.
2. To investigate the longitudinal course of illness in patients of the study including the mode of adding or shifting from a substance of abuse to another.
3. To study the frequency of depression and anxiety comorbidity in patients with addiction included in the study.
A. The results of Psychometric data assessments:
As regard the Addiction severity index:
• Thirty two patients (31.0%) showed moderate abnormality followed by 20.4% with no abnormalities and 20.4% with mild degree as regard medical subscale.
• Thirty four patients (33%) showed moderate severity followed by (32%) were severely impaired as regard employment subscale.
• Sixty four patients (62.1%) showed no abnormality on legal subscale followed by (17.5%) with moderate degree and (10.7%) with severe degree.
• The drug abuse scale showed (43.7%) of the sample were moderate followed by (35.9%) with severe degree then (20.4%) with extreme degree.
• Twenty nine patients (28.2%) showed moderate degree followed by (24.3 %) of the patients had severe then (19.4%) with extreme degree.
• The psychiatric subscale showed that (31.1%) of the patients had severe problems, (28.2%) of the patients were moderate, (26.2%) were extreme and only (5.8%) had no problems.
