Abstract Our study included 85 patients, who participated in the outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program (Phase II) in our hospital divided into two groups, 45 patients joined the regular standard program (group A) while 40 patients joined the intensive one (group B). All patients had anterior wall infarction and were successfully revuscularized through primary PCI. Several clinical, analytical and echocardiographic parameters were evaluated at the beginning and at the end of the program after three month, including the results of a treadmill exercise test. group A and B showed significant improvement in all items of comparison. There was no significant difference between the 2 groups in extent of improvement except in physical component of quality of life which showed more extent of improvement with regular training. Also, baseline METs level and baseline HRR were found to be predictors of outcome regarding the improvement in peak METs. In our study we proved that the 4-weeks intensive cardiac rehabilitation program was non inferior to the 12 week standard moderate intensity cardiac rehabilitation program. We also noted that baseline METs level and HRR were predictors of outcome. |
