Abstract Non communicable diseases (NCDs) result in premature adult mortality, lifelong disability, curtailed life expectancy and have a major economic impact on health system. Diabetes, Cardiovascular diseases, chronic Lung Diseases and Cancers are the largest contributors of mortality and morbidity in majority of the countries in the EMR and together contribute to over 57% of annual deaths in the EMR in 2012. WHO has played a leadership role in advocating for NCDs control and providing policy targets, frameworks and tools for incorporation of NCDs into national planning. These include a Global Action Plan for Prevention and Control of NCDs; the outlining ofprocess indicatorsand National NCDs targets for 2025. In the present study we specifically focus on the Health Care aspect of the Regional Framework, looking into the extent of NCDs prevention and control program integration into national policies, assessing interventions to reduce risk factors and assessing the integration of the NCDs prevention and control program into PHC package. |
