Abstract

Background: Female sexual pain is a complex multi-factorial condition. Most of researches have focused on underlying biomedical factors. Although psychological, psychiatric and relational factors have been studied as possible correlates.
Aim of the work: This study aimed to correlate female sexual pain to anxiety and depression among females in Fayoum governorate.
Patient and methods: This is a cross- sectional study. Four hundred and fifty women living in Fayoum including150 females from three main districts related to Fayoum governorate. They are Fayoum district, Sennores district and Etsa district between the age of 18 and 66 years old. They were asked to assess their sexual functions using a self- administered. Female sexual function index (FSFI), to reflect female sexual pain using the pain domain score for FSFI. .And we assessed depression and anxiety criteria using structured clinical interview (SCI), Beck anxiety inventory and Beck depression scale.
Results: The prevalence of female sexual pain regarding the pain score domain was 449(99.8%) females with pain domain score from 1-6.
There was one female with pain score zero(0.2%), 7(1.6%) with score 1, 51(11.3%) with score2, 25(5.6%) with score 3, 97(21.6%) with score 4, 32(7.1%) with score 5 and 237(52.7%) with score 6 regarded as a very low pain not annoying wives so much regarding FSFI. There was 75(16.7%) females was found with depression, 40(8.9%) with anxiety and 103(22.8%) with genital dermatological and gynecological causes.
Conclusion: The study concluded that there was a strong significant relation between female sexual pain and anxiety and depression in different levels of education, work and age among females included in our study.
