Abstract

SUMMARY
Scars on different parts of the body may cause functional disability
and cosmetic disfigurements. But when the location is on face the scars need
special attention. Depressed facial scars not only lead to cosmetic problems,
but also have psychological effects such as emotional debilitation,
embarrassment, poor self-esteem, and social isolation.
Depressed scars require particular attention when planning treatment.
If there is significant soft tissue loss, scar effacement will be one of the most
critical factors in successful management. In this case, soft tissue
augmentation will be necessary to fill the depression with fat grafts.
Fat grafts collected by liposuction can be reinjected subcutaneously
for correction of depressed or irregular areas.
Addition of PRP to fat grafts offers a better fat grafting survival, a
less bruising and inflammation reaction, and easier application of fat grafts
due to liquefaction effect of PRP.
The objective of this study is to evaluate the results of using PRP
enriched fat grafting in improving survival of the injected fat in depressed
facial scars.
Depressed scars or atrophic scars are defined by the absence of
underlying structure below the epidermis. These conditions are most often
observed after the post-traumatic loss of dermal-epidermal substance.
Correction of depressed facial scars continues to be one of the major
challenges for cosmetic and reconstructive surgeons. Autologous fat
theoretically provides a near- ideal medium for soft-tissue augmentation. It is
a medium that is readily available in abundant quantities, has good physical.
