Abstract

In the first out-patient follow up visit, we tracked major leg wound complications and we found non. however other less serious complications were found such as edema, cutaneous nerve affection and wound healing disturbance.
45% of the patients developed edema in the operated leg ( 27 pt) while 61.7% had cutaneous nerve injury (37 pt) and only 6.7% developed wound infection (4 pt) which was controlled with conservative treatment in the form of local application of antibiotic and antiseptics , good dressing and systemic antibiotics and anti-inflammatory, no pt needed further surgical intervention. A significant relation was found between post-operative lower limb edema and diabetes mellitus. and also with peripheral vascular disease.
Nerve injury manifestations in the form of numbness, tingling and paresthia were identified in 37 patients. 6 of them (16.2%) had persistent numbness beyond 6 months. We found a significant relation between nerve injury and age of the patient and another significant relation with diabetes mellitus.
We also found a significant relation between wound disturbance and female gender. and a significant relation with peripheral vascular disease.
