Abstract Childhood obesity is a condition where excess body fat negatively A child’s health and wellbeing Obesity is not as simple symptom but it is a chronic disease. Obesity is not only a chronic disease but it is an epidemic raising grave affecting all the public health , Obesity has the greatest harmful effect on health even more than tobacco Obesity in children is associated with sensorineural hearing loss caused by damage to the inner ear hair cells across all frequencies in the range that can be heared by humans. Obesity not influence the conductive system of the ear, but affect the cochlea that cause sensorineural hearing impairment specially at high frequencies , obesity influence the high frequency area of the cochlea as well as OAE that reveal distortion of emission from cochlea in obese children , and we believe that if the obesity is not treated this can lead to affection of other frequencies of the cochlea with time. In conclusion, our results showed that obesity is considered an independent risk factor for hearing impairment as there is difference between obese and control children as regarding otoacoustic emissions (OAE) and percentage of number of cases in HFA at 20000, while there is no difference between both groups as regarding laboratory investigations , tympanometry , PTA in all frequncies ( from 0.25 to 0.8) and HFA in frequencies ( from 9000 to 18000) Hearing loss should be added to the growing list of the negative health consequences of obesity that affect children and adults adding to impetus to reduce obesity among people of all ages. |
