Abstract Introduction: Devices used for resuscitation of premature babies at birth The aim of work: To evaluate the effectiveness and safety of a T-piece resuscitator compared to self inflating bag in providing mask ventilation to newborns during resuscitation of preterm infants at birth. Research Plan:. This study is a pilot, prospective, randomized and open-label study. It was carried out on 100 preterm babies who needed resuscitation after birth Results: We found no significant difference as regards time that elapsed until heart rate became 100in seconds between babies who received ambu bag and those who received T-piece during PPV at the delivery room. As regards maximum ventilation pressures used, they were significantly higher among babies who received PPV by ambu bag as compared to those who received it by T-piece resuscitator. Conclusion:. Both self inflating bag and T-piece resuscitator are equal regarding time that elapsed until heart rate became 100. Maximum ventilation pressures used were higher when a self inflating bag was used to provide PPV during neonatal resuscitation compared to when using T-piece resuscitator. |
