Abstract

Removal of organic matters from commercial phosphoric acid was carried out using charcoal and acid activated charcoal. The different factors affecting organic matters adsorption such as shaking time, charcoal amount of addition, g/ ml, temperature, mechanical stirring speed and phosphoric acid concentration have been investigated. The experimental data exhibited that the carbon treated with nitric acid caused highest organic matter adsorption capacity. The obtained results show that, the sorption process is applicable for high strength and diluted phosphoric acid. The kinetic models of adsorption were analyzed by the pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and Elovich kinetic and Morris-Weber models. Obtained adsorption thermodynamic parameters (ΔH° .ΔS° and ΔG°) expose that the organic matter adsorption being an endothermic, physical and spontaneous process.
