Abstract

Summary and Conclusion
Chlamydia trachomatis infection is suggested to be associated with
impaired ovarian function and low response to ovulation induction, also
hydrosalpingeal fluid may impair establishment of a successful pregnancy by
negatively impacting the transferred embryo or endometrial receptivity.
Chlamydia trachomatis is widespread sexually transmitted infection.
Chronicity and subclinical presentation are the common characters of its
infection. Some researchers have studied the association of such condition
and infertility. The aim of this study is to evaluate the incidence of
Chlamydia trachomatis infection in infertile females undergoing ICSI and its
impact on clinical pregnancy rate.
ICSI is considered one of the most successful technique in assisted
fertilization in cases with no explained or correctable cause. As the capacity
of ICSI has permit almost any type of spermatozoa to fertilize oocytes, so it
is considered also the most successful technique in cases of male factor
infertility.
This study was carried out in Tanta University Hospital, Obstetrics
and Gynecology Department in the period starting from June 2017 to
September 2018 .It was a prospective observational study involving 40
infertile females undergoing ICSI and 20 multiparous women attending
contraception clinic for IUD introduction. Explanation and notification of the
procedures and its aim was done for patients and written consent was taken.
