Abstract Cataract are the most common cause of vision loss in people and is the principal cause of blindness in the world. In fact, there are more cases of cataracts worldwide than there are of glaucoma, macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy combined, according to Prevent Blindness America (PBA). Cataracts are the cause of half of blindness and 33% of visual impairment worldwide. Cataract surgery is suggested by ophthalmologists when they observe a clouding of the lens inside the eyes. Aim of the study: Assess needs of cataract patients before and after cataract surgery. The results of the study had shown that: • It was found that most (81%)of the studied patients in the age ranged from 50-60 years old, more than half (56%) of the studied patients were females, nearly three quarters (72%) were married, most (84%) of the studied patients had never smoked. • Concerning to needs before and after surgery, there is high significance (<0.001) between all needs (physical, psychological social and educational) before and after surgery. |
