Abstract Para-umbilical hernioplasty is mostly safe but there are possible complications like seroma, wound infection and recurrance. Seroma is an accumulation of fluid in a tissue that can occur after surgery. Tranexamic acid is a synthetic derivative of the amino acid lysine that exerts an anti-fibrinolytic action through the reversible blockade of lysine binding sites on plasminogen molecules, used in the prevention and treatment of excessive bleeding both in primary and secondary care. Our study aimed to evaluating the effect of tranexamic acid injection on post-operative complications after Para-umbilical hernioplasty, by comparing its effects on the two groups included in the study (group A: received tranexamic acid and group B: not received tranexamic acid). In this study we compare the effect of intra-operative, intravenous single dose of tranexamic acid by a dose of 10mg/kg body weight with induction of anesthesia on the occurrence of local wound complications as seroma, wound infection in addition to time of drain stay, and the amounts of fluid coming through the drain, by comparison between two groups. In this study, we found that there was no significant effect of all of the following parameters on the results of study between both groups: age (P-value was 0.860), patient’s gender (p-value was 0.752), diabetes (p-value was 0.705), hypertension (p-value was 1.00), the drain volumes in 3rd (P-value was 0.72), occurrence of seroma (p-value was 0.429),and wound infection (p-value was 1.00). In this study we found that tranexamic acid shows positive effect on the following parameters: drain duration (P-value was 0.001), the drain volumes in 1st(P-value was 0.008),the drain volumes in 5th (P-value was 0.036), volume of seroma according to ultrasound (P-value was 0.01). |
