Abstract

This research proposes to explain the Djed-pillar, one of the ancient Egyptian symbols, particularly during the New Kingdom.
The importance of this research stems from the fact that it deals with one of the most problematic symbols of the Egyptian history, but it concentrates on the cultural, archaeological and religious aspects of Djed-pillar in the period the subject of the study.
The difficulty of the research stems from that the Djed-pillar originated from the Predynastic Egypt, which initiated a wide variety of theories and opinions about the name, form, function…etc, and the association of the Djed with different gods and aspects.
The researcher aimed to explain the following points:
● Throwing light on the Djed-pillar, generally, during the Egyptian history, particularly during the New kingdom.
● The different interpretation of the Djed as symbol, name and a sign.
● The different forms of the Djed in relation to gods, mythology, and aspects of life and death in Ancient Egypt.
● Throwing light on some of the religious texts associated with the Djed-pillar.
● An archeological survey of the scenes of the Djed-pillar on the New Kingdom Temples and tombs.
● finally, the ceremony of ”raising the Djed-pillar” as part of the study of the Djed-pillar.
