Abstract Diabetes mellitus represents a global health problem. It is characterized by hyperglycemia that induces oxidative stress leading to a generation of free radicals. A wide variety of natural products in plants represent antioxidant activity and other health benefits, like those of celery seeds. In addition, stem cell therapy holds a great promise for the repair of injured tissues and organs and it is one of the most promising therapies for diabetes mellitus. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the antidiabetic activity of apigenin extract from celery seeds and mesenchymal stem cell(MSCs)on Streptozotocin-induced diabetic female rats. Apigenin has been extracted and confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,Ultraviolet and Thermogravimetric analysis. Moreover, MSCs was isolated from male rat bone marrow. The results showed that there was an aberrant in some of the biochemical parameters and pancreatic histopathological in diabetic group. On the other hand, apigenin extract and stem cell therapies has improved the accompanying changes to diabetes, there was a significant decrease in the concentration of each of the blood glucose, the activity of alpha amylase, kidney function test, lipid profile and there was an increment of serum insulin and liver glycogen. Also, there was an amelioration on pancreatic histopathological in the treated group. In conclusions: This study, therefore, depicts that celery seeds apigenin and MSCs act as a hypoglycemic agent with the potential to normalize aberrant biochemical parameters and preserved the normal histological architecture of the islets cells of pancreatic tissues. |
