Abstract

The clinical syndrome of HF may result from disorders of the pericardium, myocardium, endocardium, heart valves, or great vessels, or from certain metabolic abnormalities, but most patients with HF have symptoms due to impaired LV myocardial function.
Heart failure is associated with undermining physical symptoms, resulting in a markedly decreased QOL. Exercise intolerance, with pronounced fatigue and dyspnea are key characteristics of the HF syndrome.
Contra-intuitively at first sight, ET is one of the most efficacious ways to improve physical performance and QOL, and to reduce morbidity and mortality. The recently launched 2016 ESC guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic HF have incorporated a recommendation for regular aerobic exercise in patients with HF to improve functional capacity and symptoms and to reduce the risk of HF hospitalization (Class I recommendation). However, there is a considerable knowledge gap between these firm recommendations and the lack of practical guidelines on the prescription of ET.
This study was conducted to assess the effectiveness of exercise based intervention on level of exertion and health related QOL compared with usual medical care in HF patients.
