Abstract

Electromagnetic fields (EMF) have various chemical effects, including causing deterioration in large molecules in cells and imbalance in ionic equilibrium. The current study investigated the effect of electromagnetic field generated by high voltage 5.4 k/v for 2,4h per day with frequency equals 50Hz on body weight, blood indices and some liver enzymes of albino rats after exposing them to the electromagnetic field for 25 days. This work focuses on the therapeutic action of methanolic extract of Moringa oleifera (M. oleifera) leaves at dose (300 mg/kg B.W), ethanolic extract of Rosmarinus officinalis (R. officinalis) leaves at dose (5 mg/kg B.W) and their mixture against harmful effects induced by electromagnetic field. Results showed that electromagnetic field exposure caused a significant decrease in RBCs, Hb and CAT. While WBCs, AST, ALT, Total Bilirubin, Urea, Creatinine, Uric Acid and MDA were significantly increased under electromagnetic field exposure. Signs of improvements in the body weight rate, the hematological parameters and the serum of liver and kidney enzymes were noticed during treatments with electromagnetic field in addition to M. oleifera, R. officinalis and their mixture. levels of CAT revealed a significant increase in a treatment with either R. officinalis, M. oleifera and mixed extracts concurrently with the exposure to HV for 2 or 4 h R. Meanwhile the levels of MAD revealed a significant decrease in a treatment with either R. officinalis, M. oleifera and their mixture extracts concurrently with the exposure to HV for 2 or 4 h. Histopathological results revealed that, the damaging effect of high voltage 2,4h on organs tissue was clearly reduced by using M. oleifera leaves extract treatment .In conclusions, Methanolic M. oleifera leaves extract, Ethanolic extract of leaves of R. officinalis, and their mixture afforded significant protection against damage caused by high voltage and therefore may have application in the field of drug development.
