Abstract

This thesis aims to convert the thermal energy to electrical energy using the thermal electric generator (TEG) by developing a model of TEG array to charge batteries for Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV). The proposed system is implemented experimentally by increasing the temperature difference between the two sides of TEG array. To achieve the high temperature difference between these sides, the hot side is putting on the exhaust manifold and the other side is cooler by using the air-condition system of the car. The electricity generated by the TEG is used for charging the battery package. The experimental results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed array of TEG for HEV system.
Moreover, a mathematical model for the TEG group has been developed and carrying out a simulation using the Matlab / Simulink software package. Also the present work includes a pilot preparation to implement the TEG matrix under different operating conditions. The tests obtained experimentally at different temperatures agreed to satisfactory with measured values for the corresponding unit. Experimental results introduce a building and design of a system to apply TEG array in the hybrid electric vehicle to recharge the batteries, and the higher the number of TEG the greater the voltage produced to charge the batteries faster.It is friendly to environment and help to saving of gasoline.
Finally, the obtained results prove that the designed array of TEG gives good performance.It can be used as a power supply to charge batteries for air navigation systems in the National Air Navigation Services Company.
