Abstract Background: Schizophrenia is a chronic and severe mental illness that progressively disturbs how a person acts, feels, and thinks, which debilitates the person’s level of functioning with negative impact on all aspect of a patient life and quality of life. Aim of the current study was to investigate the relationship between self-esteem and quality of life among schizophrenic paucnts at Abbassia hospital. Design of the present study was A descriptive exploratory design, Setting: Tills study was conducted at Abbassia governmental hospital for mental health and addiction treatment at its out-patient clinics at Cairo city. Subject: A convenient sample was selected from the out-patient clinics. Tools: Three tools were used for data collection; Tool I: Structural interview questionnaire. Tool II: Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (1986) Tool III: The World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief (2008). Results of the present study revealed that The mean age patients are 39.94±9,45.There is a statistically ignificance relation between level of self-esteem and level of quality of life among hizophrenic patients and positive correlation between self-esteem and quality of life among hizophrenic patients. Conclusion: most of schizophrenic patients have average level of self esteem; have low level of quality of life and there was highly significant relation between level of self-esteem and level of quality of lite among schizophrenic patients. Recommendations: Development of educational programs for all nurses and other health care providers in hospitals that would help schizophrenic patient to improve self-esteem, and Providing teaching program about how to enhance of quality of life for both the patients and their family. |
