Abstract

The study deals with publishing 100 demotic ostraca of an extensive collection kept in the basement of Cairo Museum. It was discovered from the excavation of the French Institute for Oriental studies in Thebes in 1963.
Nothing is known about the date. But, the internal evidence and the parallel texts in the previous studies helped to determine the date of some of the texts in the present study.
The group of the ostraca consist of different subject tackled within six chapters as follows:
- Chapter one: 21 ostraca present various kinds of taxes as salt - oil - castor seed - NHb - NHt - tny - beer - overseer of the necropolis payment - Palm trees tax and unknown tax.
- Chapter two: 4 ostraca present reminders and 36 ostraca present accounts which varied from accounts of (money - goods - grain - liquids - unknown) + ost. nr. 20 Recto is an account.
- Chapter three: 14 ostraca are classified as lists of proper names.
- Chapter four: 11 ostraca are classified as letters. Most of them concerned with business letters.
- Chapter five: 6 ostraca are classified as temple oath, which present different matters.
- Chapter six: 8 ostraca are calssified as unidentified texts.
The conclusions are displayed at the end of the study, which convey a bona fide impression of the daily life of ancient Egyptians throughout history. Not only their social life, but their economic, political and religious lives as well.
