Abstract
In this thesis the search problem for lost targets has been studied. We introduced different models for search plans which will be used to search for a lost target. We obtained the expected value for the time of detecting the target. Analytical studies is done to obtain the optimal search plan. This work falls under the area of optimal searching that addresses minimum expected value of the time. This arises in many areas such as search for missing boats, schools of fish, lost persons on roads, petroleum or gas reservoirs underground and etc.
