Abstract
The past 30 years have seen increasingly rapid advances in the field of soil improvement techniques. Among numerous techniques for improving soft soils is the deep soil mixing techniques. The deep soil mixing method was invented in Japan and Scandinavian countries. It is used for strengthening and sealing weak and permeable soils. The technique improves the mechanical and physical properties of the in-situ soil, which is mixed with cement or compound binders to form the soil mix or soil cement. The resulting stabilized soil material generally has higher strength, lower permeability, and lower compressibility than the original soil. The deep soil mixing method has been used extensively to increase bearing capacity and decrease settlement.
