Abstract

he prevalence of some important childhood psychiatric disorders as follow: disruptive behavioral disorders and conduct disorder 5.3%, oppositional defiant disorder and ADHD 5%, anxiety disorders 3.8%, development disorders 2.4% eating disorders 3%, depression 8%. The prevalence of young depression sufferers in Western cultures ranges from 1.9% to 3.4% among primary school children and 3.2% to 8.9% among adolescents.
The presence of Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) symptoms is associated with concurrent significant functional impairment in home, school, and peer domains. A recent review concluded that ADHD has a significant negative impact on quality of life comparable to that of other mental disorders and severe physical disorders, particularly as reported from the perspective of parents.
ADHD is one of the most common behavioral disorders in children and adolescents. As presented by The American Psychiatric Association in the DSM 5; 2013, the worldwide prevalence is about 5%.
The epidemiological aspects of ADHD may provide insights into its distribution and etiology, as well as information for planning the distribution of funds in mental health services to deal with the disorder. ADHD is a neurobiological disorder present by different forms of presentations of inattentive, hyperactive and also impulsive behaviors affecting individuals at different stages of growth.The aim of the present study is:
 To study the most prevalent psychiatric disorders affecting children and adolescents during 5 years from 2005 to 2012 attending special needs center.
 Incidence of ADHD cases among psychiatric disorders and Comparison of different lines of management of ADHD as a major psychiatric disorder.
Subjects and Methods:
Inclusion criteria:
1. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the main diagnosis with or without co-morbid disorders using DSM V.
2. Patient population: Boys and girls 6 to 12 years old
3. Intelligence quotient measures using Stanford Binet Fifth Edition.
Methodology:
It involves collecting full history, examination, full epidemiological data from patients diagnosed with ADHD as well as standardized Intelligence quotient measures and comparing such data with the results of the Meta analysis.
Patients will be recruited from the psychiatric clinic of the institute of post graduate childhood studies. Age: 6-12 years. Exclusion criteria:
Children, who were primarily diagnosed with a learning disability, conduct disorder, oppositional and defiant disorder, anxiety, or depression or any other mental disorder.
All patients will be subjected to:
1. Full psychiatric history and mental status examination according to the psychiatric sheet of the institute of post graduate childhood studies laying stress on the occurrence of symptoms of different forms of ADHD by using the DSM-V- criteria of diagnoses.
a- Predominantly hyperactive.
b- Predominantly inattentive.
c- Combined.
2. Full medical history
3. Complete clinical examination
4. Psychometric assessment including Intelligence quotient measures using Stanford Binet Fifth Edition and Conners test.
Result
 The total sample of the studies group was 10,800 patients among
 The number of diagnosed cases was which leads to a prevalence rate of ADHD of 10.2%.
 The Mean age of the diagnosed case in years was 6.45.
 The Mean IQ of the diagnosed cases was 94.3. Atomoxetine [non stimulant] is effective in management of ADHD symptoms especially inattention. But its efficacy in management of impulsivity and hyperactivity is less than stimulant drug [methylphenidate].
