Abstract

The study of anchors is important to nautical archaeology for several reasons, an
anchors on the seabed assumes the passing of a ship. Anchor found undersea which
represents the passage of a vessel, hence its potential as a clue to that vessel’s size and
provenance, the anchor is a wooden, stone, or metal device. Thus, if the anchor type
belonging to a specific nationality can be defined, and then finding a trail of that kind
of anchor in the sea must signify a route used by ships of that nation.
The research includes an analytic study for anchors from the primitive anchors, which
are stones that lashed with robe to the metal anchors passing by the stone anchors and
the anchors with metal component. In addition to, an experimental archaeological study
about different shapes of stone anchors and their efficiency. The anchors’ shapes will
be: Stone anchor with a single hole in the middle.
Stone anchor with two holes.
Moreover, the experiment was at different types of seabed.
On the other hand, the research discuss briefly the symbolic value of Anchors and other
different uses of Anchors as a religion symbol.
