Abstract

Breast cancer is a leading cause of female cancer deaths, secondary to lung cancer. Breast cancer accounts for 32 % of all female cancers, It constitutes 25.5% of their cancers and represents about 19% of cancer deaths.
Breast Conserving Surgery (BCS) followed by radiation therapy is comparable to total mastectomy with respect to local recurrence and survival.
The aim of our study is to assess the oncologic and cosmetic outcomes of oncoplastic breast surgeries.
The study had been conducted retrospectively on 200 female patients who underwent oncoplastic breast surgery at Alexandria Main University Hospital and various data had been collected from them from June 2014 to June 2018.
Data that had been collected to assess oncological outcomes are age, presentation, tumor size, hormonal expression of the tumor, lymph node status, multifocality, neo-adjuvant systemic treatment, type of surgery (oncoplastic surgical technique), adjuvant systemic treatment, postoperative complication, local recurrence and presence of distant metastasis.
And the cosmetic outcomes had been carried out by a single lady nurse and a breast surgeon who were not involved in patient management.
It was found that big size of tumor, receiving neoadjuvant therapy, triple –ve patients, increased number of involved lymph nodes, lymphovascular and perineural invasion are proved to have a significant relationship with increased local recurrence.
Low cosmetic results are also proved to have a significant relationship with increased local recurrence.
