Abstract Nowadays, services over the Internet have evolved rapidly, and they now play an essential role in fulfilling people daily needs and with the increasing of dependency on computers and digital information, the naive users have been increasingly targeted by miscreants who are aiming to make easy profit by means of illegal transactions. An adversary can choose from a multitude of methods to obtain the user credentials by breaking the password of the system. So, it is found out that the traditional passwords (Static passwords) are at risk, and data has to be more secured. As the static passwords are applicable to cracking, stealing and can be easily cached on hard drives, Dynamic password has been proposed, which is a password that changes every time the user logs as it is a password that is used only for once. This password named one- time password (OTP) and it is considered as a two-factor authentication as the user has to log in first with a combination of user name and traditional password and then generate an OTP to get authenticated. This thesis proposed a new model for generating an image based one time password (OTP) named Random Image Based Authentication Model (RIBPA), where the generation of OTP is based on the images features, and a new algorithm has been proposed to provide well- defined steps in order to go on through the proposed model and accomplish the required process. |
