Abstract

Background: The ability of children using a cochlear implant to interact with their peers with sound hearing in a noisy environment is crucial, just poor speech recognition may affect both learning, social interaction and depth in knowledge of the complex interaction between hearing and cognition that can have important educational and clinical implications.The aim of the work:. It is an assessment of the suitability of the Arabic list for word recognition according to the linguistic age of children. Cochlear implantation and comparison of results of word recognition tests before and after the phoniatric evaluation.Materials and Methods: This study included 46 children with hearing impairment provided with cochlear implant with comparable techniques divided into 4 groups according to the number of words pronounced by children.Results: Statistical results showed that there was a difference between the four groups before the phoniatric evaluation according to aided speech discrimination and after the phoniatric evaluation and also showed no significant correlation between the degree of speech recognition and the child’s age and duration of language therapy and the duration of implantation, while a positive statistical relationship was observed between the degree of speech recognition before and after the phoniatric evaluation.Conclusion: Based on the results of our study,the importance of linguistic assessment of children with hearing impairment using implanted cochlear and its relationship to word recognition test..
